The first board I made. Red Oak and Maple, edge grain. Broke my thickness planer. Gave it to a very good and old friend whose father inspired me to finally start woodworking, something I've wanted to do for a very long time.
Edge grain board that I made with Cherry, Walnut, Wenge (Central Africa) and Yellowheart (Brazil). Beautiful board that is now in the hands of a good friend, to be used as an engagement gift for her daughter. As you'll see below, I've used this same pattern several times now, it is well received, especially when seen in person.
Edge grain board that I made with Cherry and Walnut. Everything went well making this board and it's a beast - this is, and will be for a very long time, my personal cutting board.
Edge grain board that I made with Cherry and Walnut - went with a double Walnut line in the middle and this one has probably grabbed more attention from anyone that's seen it than any of my other boards. It's now in the hands of a friend's - or, rather, his girlfriend.
New in 2019 - these 3 cutting boards were made with Black Cherry and Black Walnut - the one added in Yellowheart and Padauk. All 3 are in the hands of good friends. The new router table system from Incra takes a little getting used to but it's helpful for doing the grooves for sure. Using the oil bath makes it a lot quicker to prep the boards for use - an hour in the bath and then a coat of oil+beeswax to sit overnight. I made these just a little thinner this time and they still feel super solid and sturdy.
