In early 2019 I ordered an Incra LS SuperSystem - since you really have to be into woodworking to know what that is, it's basically the ultimate router table system for woodworkers - from hobbyists like myself all the way up to ultra pros. I'll post about that on another page but I wanted to showcase the first closed box I've made - I made a couple others without lids (one for a friend, one for myself) to just help organizing stuff, but this one is my first real, professional box. It's made from Padauk (the red wood, possibly my favorite wood to work with) and Leopardwood (the brown/tan wood, which is gorgeous). The lid is form fit to just snap into place and I made the handle on the lid from a leftover piece of Padauk I had from a pen/pencil set I made last year. I put a piece of thick felt on the bottom on the inside and gave this keepsake box to a friend's daughter for her high school graduation. I'll definitely be making more of of these!
Along with the box above I started to make some trays. Here you can see some of the finished products along with the rough unfinished pieces. Sanding takes a while on these, especially rounding the corners and making everything flat - but I dislike cutting the felt to size. I'm a woodworker not a feltworker - but I'm learning!
This stack has various woods as below, listed from the top:
Above: A finished, sectioned tray made with Black Walnut and Red Oak.
Below: Hard Maple and PurpleHeart tray during the finishing process.
Left: Leopardwood and Padauk
Bottom Left: Red Oak and Walnut
